Duly, once again you brought tears to my eyes with laughter. I have been woken up many a night by my husband shouting into his computer mike (usually Battlefield 2, lol). On another note, you could try getting your wife hooked on Guild Wars and team up with her. :P

hmm..that doesn't always work either, as my husband and I usually end up in a fight at the end of a PvP session...it's usually "my fault" the team died (I'm the monk) and I get mad at him because he didn't protect me from getting squooshed, lol. It's all fun, though, and that's why we play the game.

We're definitely not die hard PvPers, but we take it seriously enough to always try to improve what we've got...just to see if we can do it. Who knows...maybe one day...

Thanks again for the laugh, you're definitely an asset to this board.

As a matter of fact, many years ago, my wife and I both played one of the early text-based PvP Muds. I left it when she became more popular than I was! She was a social player, although I am none too sure exactly what that involved. While I was busy dying (nothing new there then), I used to hear a lot of giggles coming from the other computer. Something to do with black-stockings, although I would imagine they made for very poor armor.

Taking the advice of some of the other posters in this thread, I decided that learning more about PvP in a more relaxed environment would be a Good Thing. So I made a PvP character for the Competition Arenas. A monk naturally, but I used Low Cunning and made her female and as small as possible (so as to be able to hide behind pillars better). This does not work! I can't believe that people would pick on a poor little female - but they do! Rather like Neanderthals on the rampage ("Duh. Monk. Kill!") everybody heads straight for me, leaving me just two choices. Stand and fight. And die. Or run. And die. Of course, my team don't bring res signets, and as soon as we lose they call each other "Noobs!" and leave.

I want an invisibility spell! Or a bodyguard! How does Wroth Yakslapper last so long against me and 5 henchmen using just Orison of Healing??? It sure doesn't work for me. I frantically spam Healing Touch, Healing Breeze and Reversal of Fortune until my finger hurts, but of course I am out of energy and collapse in a heap.

Maybe I should bring out my Hammer Warrior, but he is a Leroy of the worst type ("Have Hammer, Will Hit Things") and I feel he is temperamentally unsuited for teamwork. Unless we make a team composed entirely of Leroy's and all charge the same target...

Thats what I love about GW. So many options! Where was I? Oh yes.... CHAAAAARGE!

I think different levels of PvP competitions are a good idea.

Just link it with your total faction earned, like:

0-1000 faction << lowest
1001-3000 faction<< comes after that
3001-10000 faction<< the second level
10001+ faction<< highest of the highest

This should be linked to the total of faction earned, not that you can spend some and then return to the lowest

This all would give everyone some time to learn this all.

Ofcourse the faction needed for the levels can be changed

And about the first post; very funny indeed

Well, if you have a Leeroy, I would say go make yourself a PvP IWAY warrior and play in Tombs. At the very least, you'll learn that there are a LOT of anti-warrior skills in this game.

Ya i used to hate the pvp aspect because i never knew what i was doing.
Until i decided to research some basic/standard builds and tried to learn the strengths of them before adding my own flavour to them. The pvp in gw is amazing, and i encourage any pve only players, like i was, to test it for now im pvp only

Nice post ._.

A loss in PvP shouldn't by any means split up any friendships and keep you from speaking with one another. Despite what many people enjoy saying, PvP isn't all about winning. It's part of the game, and the game is there for people to have fun. If you have fun when you PvP, it was worth your time and effort.

The most fun I've ever had in this game, was the first time me and some old guildies ran into one of the wurms in the shiverpeaks outside beacon's perch, it tore us apart so quickly I couldn't believe myself, and there were many many hilarious moments filled with beer and obscene words, it was the most fun I've ever had in this game, and we got our ass kicked. Other times we'd go in and GvG just for the hell of it, we weren't concerned about our rank, about winning, or any of that, we just wanted to have fun. I personally hate PvP in this game because unless you care to plan out everything before the match, and are only concerned about winning, you won't find many people to have fun with. I personally believe people should play whatever they enjoy playing the most, but uh...a lot of people will disagree with that, because it doesn't bring you loads of fame without having to use any skill.

If you think it's fun being a corpse, by all means go do it. Some guildies and mine turn shit like that into ongoing jokes, and it was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed getting our asses kicked so long as it was funny. A win brings you faction and not much else, a hilarious loss with a party of drunken idiots gives you some damn good memories.

You get the idea, a loss = no big deal. Make the most out of what you can and have fun doing it.

hehe, good post. honestly, im not a big fan of unrated random gvg because u could be facing the rank 1 team when ur rank 50000. i prefer to set up battles against friend's guilds, it's fun and everybody enjoys it. in the future just make sure you have all level 20's- or at least good people that you trust. about the UW/ FoW thing, that happened to me several times beafore i got the message (sad ain't it?)

i am about like the OP, i am totally lost in pvp, i do the random arenas occasionally, but i wont do any gvg now, its to much complaining from the other people, i remember the first time i tried it, back in my old guild, i just said anyone could come with us, preferably with their character they did best with, well we did have a couple low levels with us, i think one of em may have been 6, we did 2 battles,

battle #1, some korean guild whose names i couldnt even read, they spoke a little bit of english, they were as lost as us, we were all running everywhere, it was 1 on 1 battles all over the place, every once in a while someone would charge a guild lord(by themselves) and get mangled by archers, the battle lasted for like an hour then we finally gave up, both sides were saying good game to each other, then we left

battle #2, some american guild, we got totally destroyed, they were all level 20, the warriors were using HAMMERS! who can imagine? and damn they knock you down alot! we lasted about a minute and a half, then they started calling us names, using profanity, so we leave, then we start getting whispered with the same type of nonsence, all because we gave them an easy win, so i havent done any gvg since, i readily admit i am new at pvp, and i suck at pvp, but i really dont feel like being called names because of it

also did the UW/fissure thing, luckily i was in an EXPERIENCED group(which i claimed to be also) so i didnt get killed too much, just when the big black things came over to smash my head off now and then, at least it was quick and painless

This actually is THE PvP problem in GW. There are so many immature kids out there who just don't know how to behave. Sometimes I wish there was a way to electrocute someone over the internet so I could give those rude name callers a healthy dose of high voltage. I can't even begin to describe how much I hate those name callers. If I had a dollar for every idiot player in GW, I could quit my job....
